Donation Acceptance Policy – Caywood Brown Foundation
Acceptance of any contribution, gift, or grant is at the discretion of the Caywood Brown Foundation. The Foundation will not accept any gift unless it can be used or expended in a manner consistent with the purpose and mission of the Caywood Brown Foundation.
No irrevocable gift, whether outright or life-income in character, will be accepted if, under any reasonable circumstances, the gift would jeopardize the donor’s financial security.
The Caywood Brown Foundation does not provide advice regarding the tax or legal treatment of donations and encourages all donors to seek guidance from their own professional advisers before making a contribution.
The Foundation will accept donations of cash or publicly traded securities. Gifts of in-kind services may be accepted at the discretion of the Caywood Brown Foundation.
Certain other gifts — including real property, personal property, in-kind contributions, non-liquid securities, and donations from sources that are not transparent or that include use restrictions — must be reviewed prior to acceptance due to the potential obligations or liabilities they may pose to the Caywood Brown Foundation.
The Foundation will provide acknowledgments to donors that meet tax requirements for property received as a gift. However, except for gifts of cash and publicly traded securities, no monetary value will be assigned to any receipt or other form of gift substantiation issued by the Caywood Brown Foundation.
The Foundation will respect the donor's intent concerning restricted-purpose gifts and any wishes to remain anonymous. In the case of anonymous donations, information about the donor will be limited only to staff members with a legitimate need to know.
The Caywood Brown Foundation does not provide compensation, including commissions or finder’s fees, to any third party for directing a gift or donor to the organization.
